Be an ornament!

Tis’ the season for Christmas lights & decorations!

This last week Anita & I took a stroll downtown to look at all the Christmas lights, decorations & to see the different events that are kicking off! What a great time we had!

We got pictures by the train, watched the ice skaters & were blessed to meet a nice Christian couple who were running a booth doing horse carriage rides! We decided next week we will be in line for that for sure! Can’t wait!

But of all things, the highlight of our stroll for me was when we came across a “walk-through” ornament, & the thought crossed my mind “so this is how it feels to be an ornament! ” as I chuckled to myself out loud.

I’m always amazed at God (& always will be) at how He uses the “little things” to make huge miracles! This concept of His is all over Scripture!

While Anita & I decided to no longer do a Christmas tree a few years back & focus on the Nativity as our main decor, a “Tree” & “Ornament” did come to the forefront of my mind & heart.

When Peter & the Apostles were on trial, they said this:

“The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree.” Acts‬ ‭5:30‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The “Tree” of course represents The Cross, & “The Ornament,” none other than Jesus Christ Himself!

So what is an ornament?

I looked it up at https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ornament & the first 3 definitions are as follows:

  1. a useful accessory

  2. (A) something that lends grace, beauty, or festivity (B) a manner or quality that adorns

  3. one whose virtues or graces add luster to a place or society

Wow!

Check this out…

The Scripture says in John 1:14 that “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…,” referring to Jesus of course! Jesus IS the Scripture in the flesh!

Now look at the correlation:

1) a useful accessory/“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” 2 Timothy‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭NLT‬

2) A) something that lends grace, beauty, or festivity (B) a manner or quality that adorns/“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”John‬ ‭1:14‬ ‭NKJV‬

3) one whose virtues or graces add luster to a place or society/“Then Jesus spoke to them saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”” John‬ ‭8:12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Jesus indeed adds virtues & graces to the world! He adds light! He IS the light!

Have y’all ever seen this?

The devil takes away (he steals) - so when you take the “d” away from devil, you get evil!

God (Jesus) ADDS (He gives abundant life) - so when you add an “o” to God, you get good!

See John 10:10

Jesus IS the ultimate ornament, which leads to my closing…

If we are followers of Christ, we ARE little ornaments! So I guess I do know how it feels to be an ornament after all!

And you know what? The Lord has decorated our life with many shining ornaments…YOU! So I guess y’all already knew what it felt like to be an ornament too! Thank you for being a part of mine & Anita’s life! We are so very thankful for each & every one of you!

““You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew‬ ‭5:14-16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
